MUMBAI : In the film industry, directors and actors rarely have a bond that extends beyond the process of making movies. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has explained why he respects filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's filmmaking and his significance in his 25-year playing career after the actor revealed in a recent interview that Anurag Kashyap had revealed that celebrity designers once refused to make a suit for the actor.

The 2012 Cannes Directors' Fortnight, a significant platform for innovative and daring cinema, featured Nawazuddin's Gangs of Wasseypur, which was directed by Anurag Kashyap. Due to Nawazuddin's "way he looked," designers had refused to make a suit for his special day, according to Kashyap.

Nawazuddin claims he was hurt when he was kind of rejected because of his looks, but he is now happy that people like and recognize his talent. During an interview with the well-known news website, Nawazuddin stated, “It was Gangs Of Wasseypur. Gangs had not released then. Of course bura lagega (I was hurt) that people have that kind of approach to an actor. I felt ajeeb (weird).”

The actor then thanked Kashyap for introducing him to a world he never knew existed before he became an actor and taking him international. He said, “With time people saw my work and started appreciating it. If your work is good, people will appreciate it, thanks to Anurag Kashyap who introduced me to a big platform. When I went to Cannes, there were so many people who had seen my work. A lot of the films that he has directed and I have acted in, have gone to Cannes, so Anurag is a special director for me.”

Nawazuddin and Anurag have worked together on a number of famous projects. Along with other films, the two collaborated on Sacred Games and Raman Raghav 2.0.

Nawazuddin says he is very fond of the director. Upon hearing that Anurag had mentioned how he and Taapsee Pannu would check up on him at a difficult time in his life, and that this helped him in overcoming alcohol addiction and depression, Nawaz added, “Anurag and I are not even friends, frankly speaking. If we sit together we might not even talk to each other for hours. We are like that. We have flown together, travelled together for 5-6 hours without saying a word, maybe we’ll ask  if you have matchsticks, or come, let’s eat something or drink. We only discuss these things. We don’t talk much. But Anurag has a special place in my heart. I always want him to be healthy and make films even if he doesn’t cast me in them. Anurag should always keep making films. Kabhi koi aanch nahi aani chaahiye Anurag ko bass (Anurag should never have any problems),” he added.
