Last year, when the brutal rape of Nirbhaya jolted India, it was kind of a wake-up call for my conscience: Siddhartha M Jain, producer iRock Entertainment

This morning when people woke up to the information that today (16 December) happens to be the first anniversary when Damini (Nirbhaya), college student, was raped in a ghastly incident in Delhi by four men, it was an eyesight seeing a full page advert in newspapers of the film Kill The Rapist? produced by Siddhartha M Jain under his banner iRock Entertainment. In a telephonic conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Siddhartha talked at length about his film. “Last year, when the brutal rape of Nirbhaya jolted India, it was kind of a wake-up call for my conscience. It disturbed me, angered me and as a vent-out mechanism, I started a group on FB called Kill The Rapist?. This led to more discussions with friends. Sometime later Sanjay Chhel narrated me a story which I thought gave me an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and do something which had social relevance and not just make a film for entertainment,” informed Siddhartha. What made you name your film Kill The Rapist? “The name of our group on FB became the title of our film. Sanjay and I decided to partner on this one and make this film, no matter what. We got partial funding support from private women investors, friends, discounted fee rates from crew and I pumped-in all of my savings into making this film,” he added. What’s your take when you look back? “Well, Kill The Rapist? is a cathartic film for me. It was challenging because we didn't get much support from business people around us. I heard all things again that I had heard when I was making Ragini MMS. I was told that my career would be over if I made Ragini but it didn't. This further pushed me to make this film with Sanjay and the entire team.” Could you brief us about your film’s storyline? “The film has been in news for last many months and though it is not based on the Nirbhaya incident, its core lies in the torrid tale of a rape victim,” he answered. “Our film explores what the girl goes through physically, mentally, her journey and the people around her. We have put a question mark at the end of the title because we don’t want to preach or take a legal stand.” Would your film have an impact on the society? “Our film aims to make every rapist shiver with fear before even thinking of committing rape according to its Facebook page which has already notched up more than 40,000 supporters.” Wouldn’t you call the year 2013 a year of rapes galore? “You see rapes were committed earlier too. It’s only that today people are not taking things lying down and every such crime is coming out in the open. And once open the media is playing up such incidents that tend to move people at large and take to precaution,” observes Siddhartha. When is your film releasing? “Well, our film is scheduled to release any time in March, 2014. Its trailer releases today. It was just apt that the first look be launched on this date which is inarguably a black day in the history of mankind,” the producer proclaimed.”
