49 days after composer Jatin and Lalit and singers Sulakshana and Vijeta Pandit’s eldest sister Sandhya Singh went missing, her body parts have been discovered on Palm Beach Road , thereby putting a catastrophic closure on the Pandit family’s and the missing woman’s husband Jaiprakash Singh’s prolonged agony that began when Sandhya disappeared in broad daylight from a busy area of Mumbai after she was dropped by a friend in front of a bank. Sandhya was known to be extremely fond of jewellery and wore loads of ornaments constantly. It was feared by the family that she had been kidnapped for her jewellery. As time passed the missing woman’s family had hoped she would be robbed of her valuables and returned safely. “But that was not meant to be,” sighs Sandhya’s sibling Lalit, one-half of Bollywood’s famous music composing duo Jatin Lalit.“Our sister went missing on December 13.She never returned. As the days turned into more than a month we lost hope. Now 46 days later Monday night her body was recovered from a secluded area near on Palm Beach Road near the Delhi Public school.” Sandhya’s husband had recently announced a reward money of Rs 5 lakhs for any information on her. Horrifically, Sandhya’s body has been cut and only her body parts have been recovered. Says Lalit, “We only knew it was her because of the mangalsutra and the rudraksha and also a cap in her tooth. Otherwise there was no way we could tell whose body parts they were...What our sister must have gone through before she was killed so brutally....I wouldn’t wish this kind of a gruesome tragedy on any family.We can’t begin to describe what we’re going through. What harm had our sister done to anyone? If they wanted to rob her of her jewellery why kill her so brutally?What do we tell our sister’s children about what happened to their mother?” Lalit and the Pandit family’s pain is aggravated by the insensitivity displayed by the police. Says Lalit, “The cops told us she might have run away with somebody. To hear that about our happily married sister was a pain and humiliation we couldn’t bear.At least now we won’t have to hear such talk.”
