MUMBAI : Aaliyah Kashyap, the daughter of Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap, expressed her displeasure when her father complimented Animal in a photo he shared with Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The director discussed similar things in a recent interview.

Anurag also talked about how Aaliyah called him out in an interview with YouTuber Janice Sequiera. “My daughter called me out. She hated Animal.” The director went on to say that she was offended when he showed her a picture of them together from their meeting and gave him accolades. He went on to say that his buddies had chastised him for sharing the photo.

“They all came home and asked me 10,000 questions. And I was like, tum baki sab toh chhod do, picture ka naam kya hail? (Leave everything else, what is the name of the film?) Animal. It’s not called ‘Human’. Why did the film become difficult? Because everyone’s favorite Ranbir Kapoor played the role,” he shared.

Earlier this year, Aaliyah hosted the Gangs of Wasseypur director on her podcast and the subject of his picture with Vanga was brought up. Aaliyah revealed that she disliked Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. She recalled she ‘bit*hed’ about the ‘horrible, misogynistic’ film with Anurag and the filmmaker agreed with her criticism only to share a picture with Vanga a week later.

On her podcast, Young, Dumb & Anxious, Aaliyah said, “The caption of the post where you were promoting the guy which I was not very happy about. I actually saw Animal and called you immediately and ranted, ‘What a horrible, misogynistic movie it is and how much I hated it,’ and you agreed with me. A week later when I opened Instagram, I saw a post from my father, promoting a man I was b*tching about.”

Anurag added that, like Vanga now, he was a canceled filmmaker at the height of his career and that he was aware of how lonely it can be.

“You were much younger when your father was cancelled for his films. After Dev D came out, I was cancelled by a lot of people. I was the untouchable guy. People said, ‘What a misogynistic film!’ Gangs of Wasseypur was also met with a similar fate even though my characters had agencies. I have often seen people isolating someone, attacking someone and that is not the way to be,” he said.

Anurag talked candidly about meeting Vanga as well. “I met him, I like him. I like the guy. I’ve had questions of my own and I wanted to talk to him about his film. I invited him and I had a long five-hour conversation and I like the guy,” the filmmaker shared.
